What is this about?

Big Tech companies offer free, convenient tools. The trade-off is your data - your searches, your emails, your location, your habits - collected, analysed and sold to advertisers.

Most people don't switch because it feels overwhelming. Where do you even start? Why should I replace specific apps? What do you replace them with? How do I migrate my data to the new app?

This tool helps you answer those questions. It shows you what you're currently using, what you could switch to, and how to make the change. A step-by-step guide exists for each category to guide you along the way. Every switch you make reduces your exposure and puts you back in control of your data.

Why switch?

How It Works

Start screen showing the onboarding questions
1

Start

Pick which mainstream services you currently use, then set your alternative preferences - whether you want open source only, EU-based, free options, or something else. These filters control which alternatives appear when you track a trail.

Already know what you want? Skip it and jump straight in.

2

Track Your Trails

Work through the things you use every day - email, search, maps, browser, storage and more.

Each trail is your record of switching from one app to another: log what you're switching from, what you're trying, and how it's going. Tried three different email providers before finding one you like? Log all of it as part of your journey.

The journey is the point and sometimes, it leads you to products that fit you better than ever.

See Your Progress

Every change you log builds a picture of how far you've come. See your overall progress, which companies you've reduced your exposure to, and what's left to do.

4

Share It

Inspire others by sharing where you're at. Export a clean summary of your progress and post it to social media.
